Below is our recent interview with Igor Spinella, CEO of Eggtronic:

Q: For those who haven’t heard of it, what is the best way to describe Eggtronic?

A: Eggtronic is a young and innovative engineering company. We specialize in wireless charging technology and the next generation of power conversion and battery power. Our chargers and power banks are among the most power-efficient and environmentally responsible on the market. We truly believe our research will change how we power our personal devices, connect our homes, and build our cars.

Additionally, all Eggtronic products crafted for the very best user experience. We are an Italian company—our headquarters are in Modena, a beautiful city located halfway between Milan and Florence—and as such, Eggtronic continues Italy’s tradition of excellence in design. Our products are aesthetically beautiful, made of high-quality materials, and a pleasure to use.

Q: You’ve recently announced next-gen universal charger; could you tell us something more?

A: We are very proud of Sirius! The Sirius Universal Laptop Charger is poised to fundamentally change the way we charge our devices. It is the smallest, most powerful, and most efficient adapter ever made.

Sirius is versatile, able to charge all USB-C devices, not only laptops. Thoughtful design features like the folding prongs make it easy to carry in your purse or pocket. When the prongs are extended and plugged into a socket, Sirius is flush to the wall. There is no risk of the charger unplugging, and you can maximize space behind furniture or other hard-to-reach places.

Sirius will help make travel easier for millions of people. No larger than a deck of cards, travelers can replace old bulky and heavy AC adaptors and save valuable space in hand luggage.

And in addition to being smaller and lighter than any other competing charger, Sirius delivers energy to your device with unprecedented speed and energy efficiency. It boasts a 93% energy conversion rate. And it features a cool-running feature than actively preserves the longevity of your electronics.

Q: How did you manage to achieve this breakthrough in design?

A: It was made possible through two sophisticated technological advancements: EcoVoltas, our proprietary technology in the field of isolated power conversion; and gallium nitride transistors. Let me explain why these two things were so key to the development of Sirius.

Firstly, research done by our brilliant mechatronic and electrical engineers led to EcoVoltas. EcoVoltas is based on more than 70 international patents. In short: the resonance between electric and magnetic fields in order to achieve Zero Voltage/Zero Current Switching of the active devices, together with techniques able to double the power transfer per cycle, allowed us to invent a process that increases power density and keeps efficiency very high.

Secondly, the use of gallium nitride (GaN) transistors reduces power lost per cycle. Unlike the previous generation of transistors made of slow silicon, we use speed-optimized GaN semiconductors.

So because of these two breakthroughs, our new generation of fast-charging mobile adapters has shrunk in size, weight, and cost.

Q: What types of products do you provide to your customers?

A: Our consumer products can be divided into three main categories: wireless chargers, power banks, and the Sirius. We have talked already about the Sirius, so let me describe the first two.

Our wireless chargers use Qi technology, the industry gold standard for fast and safe wireless charging. The Invisa-Qi can be embedded in furniture. The Wireless Charging Stone is made from beautiful materials like genuine marble, lava stone, and travertine. And the Power Popper and Power Ring combine wirelessly-charging backup power with ergonomic and secure phone grips.

We also specialize in power banks that offer high battery capacity and versatility. A good example of these is our Laptop Power Bank. This 20,000 mAh Universal Backup Power can charge up to three USB and USB-C devices simultaneously, one of which can be a laptop. It’s extremely powerful, with its 63-watt total output power. One of its three ports is a 45-watt fast charge USB Power Delivery port.

Besides consumer electronics, we are active in B2B and with the automotive industry. For confidentiality reasons, I can’t go into specifics here, so I’ll just say that some of the highest-end car makers use Eggtronic technologies and chargers, and we are engaged with some of the biggest corporations in the world for their next-generation converters.

Q: What are the company’s plans and goals for the future?

A: Our first priority is to scale quickly, in order to become ubiquitous and let more of the world’s biggest corporations use our technologies.

We are on track to be a billion-dollar company in a couple of years. We will be able to reduce worldwide emissions thanks to the future mass adoption of our technologies. Does that sound ambitious? Well, yes, but it’s completely possible.

Let’s consider just one change that could come from the widespread use of Sirius, the universal charger by Eggtronic that we discussed earlier. Five billion people in the world have a mobile phone, and over half of those are smartphones. That is five billion people that need chargers. Five billion opportunities everyday to drastically save energy costs and reduce the emissions associated with energy consumption.

Our warming climate impels us to dramatically change how we consume energy, and Eggtronic technologies are poised to help achieve this change.
