500W Microinverter based on single-stage DC/AC DAB Cycloconverter
This reference design leverages Eggtronic’s proprietary SolarEgg™ technology to deliver industry-leading performance in solar applications, maximizing energy harvest while significantly reducing BOM and system complexity. The platform is optimized for modern high-power photovoltaic modules up to 500W.
At its core, SolarEgg™ employs an advanced single-stage DAB cycloconverter architecture for direct DC-to-AC conversion. The topology integrates a primary low voltage full-bridge, a secondary high voltage half-bridge based on bidirectional GaN devices, and a high-frequency isolation transformer. The EPICⓇ controller’s proprietary Variable Frequency Modulation (VFM) enables Zero-Voltage Switching (ZVS) across all power devices, minimizing reactive power and switching losses. The result is a highly efficient, flat efficiency curve across the full operating range, outperforming conventional fixed-frequency solutions.
The design incorporates a comprehensive set of protection features to ensure robustness and compliance with grid standards, including Grid Over/Under Voltage (OVP/UVP), Over/Under Frequency (OFP/UFP), Over Temperature Protection (OTP), and cycle-by-cycle Over Current Protection (OCP).
Ideal for high-performance residential and commercial microinverters, this 500W example operates over a wide 25V–50V DC input range (MPPT) and delivers a grid-tied 230VAC/240VAC output, providing the full 500W across the entire MPPT window.
